Wainright

Today, I met an interesting guy named Wainright. He was a built fellow with a clean shave and a smile that could light up a room. It was revealed to me after some greetings that he was a journalist by trade. In fact, he was the National Deputy of Publicity Secretary for the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD). He also happened to be the Head of Media for the party.

He had tried to tell me his first name, but tacitly, he gave me his middle name, Wainright. I thought it to be very helpful because the names here in Malawi are difficult to remember and pronounce.

I was pretty surprised to meet someone of his station in life. I mean, I don't think I've ever met a journalist before. I've seen them on TV and read their articles, but never in person. It was a pretty cool experience.

He told me about his son who was just 14 years old. Because I told him about my computer science background, he seemed intrigued and asked me if I could be a contact for his son. I was a bit taken aback by the request, but I agreed. I mean, it's not every day that you meet someone like Wainright. Also, most often than not, people don't really try to express a desire for a long-term relationship with anyone especially in a matter of minutes.

I'm not sure what I can offer his son, but I'm willing to try. I think it's important to help others when you can especially if helping them costs you nothing.
