Gradebook Project Demo

I do a presentation to the teachers of St. Mary's Secondary School.

Morning

This morning we had a slightly different breakfast. I still kept getting an omelette as I usually did, but this time our potatoes were fried, kind of like french fries. And we had some kind of pastry which wrapped sausage. It was delicious.

The engineering team planned to leave early in the morning at 8am. One of the engineering faculty was still sick so the mechanical engineering graduates were pretty much by themselves at the school. They got driven up there, while Martin and I walked up because there wasn't enough space in the car.

It was pretty nice walk up and it was super windy which was nice.

At the School

After we go to the school, we met up at a computer lab where we met Wisdom, Hendrix, Marc, and Wilson. I forget what kind of teachers they were but they taught computer science, social studies, and mathematics. These people were definitely more intelligent and knowledgeable than me.

Then, I did a presentation about the gradebook website that we had been building over the last semester. This was the cumulative work of 6 people including myself and I made sure to emphasize that it wasn't just me.

As far as their reactions go, they were super happy with the product even going so far as to say that it exceeded their expectations. Due to the nature of zoom and language barriers, they feared that a lot of what they requested may have gone over our heads, but it seemed like we were successful in understanding what they wanted.

There were still bugs left and more features that they requested, but this project is now transforming into a much more larger project, possibly extending into next semester which will be version 2.

Everyone seemed happy with the result. All the faculty heard about it as well as the diocese that we met up later that day found out. One of their leaders spoke to me for future collaboration, but I just redirected them to Martin.

Meeting with the Leaders of the Diocese.

The nursing team arrived at the school at 2pm and we grouped up with Martha, the head teacher, and David, the vice president of operations.

Just right next door to the school is literally a mansion which represents the Northern bishop of Malawi or something.

In order for any health-related initiatives to get done, it must be done through this religious institution. And so that was the purpose of this meeting, mainly for the nursing team in which we introduced ourselves to them and them to us as well.

Back at Kapirimtende

I got back with the nursing team and they held a debrief about the meeting. I decided to be a part of it.

Then, I helped out one of the faculty with computer stuff, fell asleep at a table at the dinner gazebo. One of the staff woke me up, Lucy.

And then we had dinner and I left early because I was so tired.
