day 1 of 2025
i wanted to start this year 2025 strong so i wrote a new year's resolutions in my journal. however, that is in a different and private entry.
this is part of it:
- learn mandarin
- learn art
- get into competitive programming
- network more
- make friends
- block out my schedule
- learn more freeskate techniques
- get into AI!
- practice lucid dreaming and meditation
- do a weekly journal entry reviewing that week
past few days
past few days have been nice. i got to do a little bit of gymnastics. that was really fun. angie's brother-in-law, david, is a gymnastics coach and i think he was affiliated with a olympic gymnast suni lee?? crazy. he was giving me pointers on how to do a back flip on flat ground.
that's what i did yesterday, dec 31. i did a high volume of backflips on the trampoline and a couple on the ground. that was exhausting. it's been literally almost a decade since i did any flips. it's not rlly a backflip, the coach says i should refer it to as a back tuck. his reasoning being that if he were in my field of tech stuff and that i would and should correct him on vocabulary usage when it comes to tech. therefore, it's only reasonable for me to adopt the vocab of gymnastics.
i completely agreed.
but now its jan 1. my body is so sore omg. it feels nice tho. i had a feeling that i would be sore, but not as sore as this. i freeskate a lot and that exercises some weird muscles and my body is conditioned to sustain the freeskating movement and techniques. however, gymnastics? not so much.
i learned that the primary reason is because my slow twitch muscle fibers were conditioned, but the fast twitch ones were not. slow twitch is for like endurance and stuff, but fast twitch is for explosive movements like back tucks. like i can freeskate for hours on end, but i can't even do 50 back tucks in one hour.
that made me very disappointed.
i also cooked some. was able to introduce some of my culture's dishes to this family. that made me proud.
