Past Few Days

Yesterday May 22, not a lot happened other than me programming and working. That's all I did.

But today we had stuff planned. The engineering team are going to school after breakfast to do some more planning and for the computer science team to speak with a German engineer over a call—his name is Fynn.

The call was mostly just an introductory conversation in which Martin and I spoke a great deal about us and, likewise, Fynn spoke about himself and his role.

We exchanged further contacts and informed the German about our plans and what we made and what we require of him. Other than that, I felt like he was an easygoing guy. I could immediately tell that he was a very capable dude.

When it came to the specifics of deployment, I asked him a ton of questions regarding the network topology as well as discussing various technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.

I was happy to hear that the time I spent learning about k8s and Docker back home was well spent.

Later that day, Fynn sent me a message containing credentials for the Tailscale software that they use which is a VPN that I think must be installed onsite and have internet connection. It allows users across the world to remotely access the server onsite.

I suppose the benefit of this is security because you can let Tailscale worry about who has access to the network.

It was nice, very intuitive and easy to use because it took me no less than 5 minutes to connect to the VPN and ssh into the St. Mary's Secondary School server.

Church Service

After the phone call, Katherine and Cameron wanted to go back to Kapirimtende so I joined them. I got to hear a lot about their thoughts and feelings about the trip so far. The walk took about 50 minutes and it was very straightforward and relaxing. We were talking the whole time so time passed super quickly since we were occupied all throughout. Honestly, it felt like a 10 minute walk.

So, we got back and stayed until about 2:30pm which is the Christian church service. We got to the school, joined the students, but we stayed near the back of the building, and it was one of the coolest things I've seen and heard. The singing was beautiful.
